Our Faith

After the Night is a Christ-centred ministry, grounded in Scripture and shaped by the life, teachings, and compassion of Jesus.

We believe the work of responding to domestic abuse flows from the heart of God revealed in Jesus —We believe God is present with those who suffer, that truth brings freedom, dismantles fear and silence, and leads people gently toward dignity and life.

The theology behind our work

Rooted in Christ, we trust that all healing and transformation flow from abiding in him (John 15:5), not from human effort or control. The journey of After the Night begins in honest lament, where darkness is named (Psalm 88) and the cries of the oppressed are heard (Exodus; Psalm 121).

From there, we walk through the valley together, discovering that God does not instantaneously remove our pain (Job), but meets us within it (Psalm 34:18; Psalm 42; Psalm 23), and that light begins to dawn through presence (Luke 24) rather than answers.

Holding fast to God’s promise to restore dignity (Psalm 30:5; John 8:32) and bring beauty from ashes (Isaiah 61:1-4; Luke 4:16-21), we trust him to lead people into new ways of standing (Habbakuk 3:19) and into spacious places (Psalm 18; 31) where fear no longer has the final word (1 John 4:18).

Throughout this journey, harmful beliefs are gently dismantled (2 Cor 10), and all change is entrusted to the quiet, faithful work of God’s Spirit — not by might, nor by power, but by his Spirit (Zech 4:6).

“Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning.”

— Psalm 30:5
